Floods create havoc in parts of Odisha, West Bengal

Kolkata/ Odisha, August 01 (ANI): Floods caused by heavy rainfall have created havoc in eastern states of West Bengal and Odisha. Heavy rainfall and thundershowers are lashing West Bengal and Odisha under the impact of deep depression over Bay of Bengal which has intensified into cyclonic storm Komen. The flood situation in Birbhum district in West Bengal has worsened with Hinglo river flowing above the danger level at several places. At least six lorries got submerged as water gushed out of the river flooding streets on Saturday (August 01). In Kolkata, heavy rainfall led to waterlogging and traffic moved at slow speed causing commuters inconvenience. Water also entered shops in the city destroying stocks. Thirty nine people have died due to floods in West Bengal state so far. Meanwhile, many villages in Odisha continued to be submerged under water. Maximum rainfall has been predicted in West Bengal's East Midnapore, North and South 24 Parganas, Hooghly, Howrah, Birbhum and Burdwan districts.
