Flooded Kashmir s national highway re opens after 13 days of closure due to landslide

Ramban, Sep 16 (ANI): Flood-ravaged Kashmir's Jammu-Srinagar National Highway reopened on Tuesday for vehicular traffic after remaining closed for 13 days due to landslides triggered by incessant rains. Acting as life-line of the valley, opening of the road will boost the relief operations. On the intervening night of September 02 and 03, a five-km road patch was washed away in flash floods besides multiple landslides, sinking of road and flooding at various places in Ramban district. Over 3000 to 4000 vehicles, particularly trucks carrying supplies had been stranded on the Highway. Following an inspection of the road and assessment of the overall situation by the senior officers of the traffic police and district administration on Monday morning the NH44 was opened for a trial for the one-way traffic to clear about 320 vehicles, mostly the trucks.
