Flood-water recedes, focus shifts on rehabilitation
Alappuzha/ Pathanamthitta (Kerala), Aug 21 (ANI): As the flood-water in Kerala has started to recede, some regions still remain water-logged and the marooned flood victims at relief camps cannot go back to their houses. One such region is Ala, a village in Chenganoor taluka of Alappuzha district which is still water-logged. A relief camp in Ala shelters more than 900 people where people cannot go to their houses at least for five six days. Medical aid and other basic facilities such as food and drinking water are being provided to more than 23 thousand people by the authorities working at the relief camps. Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) personnel stepped into provide medical aid at camps in Alappuzha and Pathanamthitta. Heavy rains battered the state of Kerala, resulting in one of the worst floods in a century. Kerala Chief Minister confirmed on August 18 that the death toll due to the floods has risen to 357. Medical aid has been provided to more than 23 thousand people and around 3 lakh food packets have been supplied by the Food Processing Ministry till now.
