Excise department seizes rare forest products in Kashmir

Kathua, August 29 (ANI): Excise and taxation departments of Kashmir seized rare and valuable forest products in Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir. Following a tip-off that forest products hidden in a coal laden truck were being smuggled, the officials seized it on the Lakhanpur toll post in the district. The truck, which started from Srinagar, was on its way to Batala town of Punjab. The smugglers had concealed the forest products under the carbon bags. On unloading the truck, the excise department found 30 bags of forest products. Deputy Excise Commissioner of Kashmir, Rajesh Sharma said that these products have high demand in open market which is why they are smuggled. The seized forest products weighed around nine quintals which comprised of 625 kilograms of koad-kutki, 343 kilograms of Mushk bala and two kilograms of wild garlic.
