Congress legislators call off protest over farmers issue in Madhya Pradesh
Bhopal, March 27 (ANI): Legislators of Congress party called off their agitation on Friday after failing to get any assurance from the government of Madhya Pradesh. They were demanding compensation for rain and hailstorm-hit farmers of the state. The legislators also staged a four-day sit-in protest in the premises of the state assembly. Hailstorms early this month destroyed Rabi crops in 10 million hectares of a total of 61 million hectares sown this winter, the agriculture ministry said on Thursday. Party leader Satyadev Katare said two of their legislators were to be hospitalized after they fell ill during the protest. Katare told reporters that they have decided to call off the protest in the state assembly. The protesters were given a notice on Thursday night to evict the assembly premises.
