Campaign to trace missing children launched in Tamil Nadu

Coimbatore, July 04 (ANI): The district administration in Tamil Nadu launched operation Muskaan (smile), in a bid to trace missing children and solicit participation from the residents in the effort. The campaign has been launched following a directive issued by the Indian Supreme Court and will go on for a month from July 01 to July 31. Under this campaign five teams have been constituted to carry out search operations for the missing children. Each of these teams comprises police personnel, District Child Protection Officers (DCPO), members of non-governmental organisations (NGO) and officials from other government departments. DCPO, Vijaya said that children living in state run shelters, on bus stops, railway platforms, roads and religious places etc were being screened and those rescued have been handed over to their parents or rehabilitated. The Home Ministry has put in place some guidelines to streamline the screening process. Details of all the children identified during this screening process will be uploaded on 'missing child' portal of the Ministry of Women and Child Development.
