Cabinet clears bill to operate land boundary pact with Bangladesh

Phulbari/ Guwahati/ New Delhi, May 06 (ANI): The Indian cabinet cleared a bill to operationalise the Land Boundary Agreement with Bangladesh. The bill is expected to come up in the upper house of the parliament on Wednesday (May 06). The bill paves the way for land exchange with Bangladesh in West Bengal, Tripura, Meghalaya and Assam. The Narendra Modi-led government put prolonged efforts to bring opposition Congress party's lawmakers on board to include Assam into the bill's ambit. Spokesperson of Trinamool Congress party, Derek O' Brien, welcomed the bill's clearance. Meanwhile, various students unions and locals held protest march in Guwahati city of Assam condemning the bill's clearance. The bill, which will amend the constitution to enable the land exchange, needs to be passed by a two-thirds majority in Parliament.
