Artist Sudarsan Pattnaik carves sand sculpture on global warming

Puri, May 27 (ANI): Indian artist Sudarsan Pattnaik carved a sand sculpture in Puri city focusing on the issue of global warming. Global warming is to be blamed for extreme hot days and almost a fifth of heavy downpours, according to a scientific study that gives new evidence of how rising man-made greenhouse gases are skewing the weather. The artist created a sculpture with the message ‘Act fast before it’s too late’. Pattnaik used about four tonnes of sand to create five feet high sand sculpture on the Puri beach to create awareness about global warming and said the soaring heat has killed more than 850 people in India. The sand sculpture showed two parts - one side a green earth and the other side a burning earth through a human face. As tourists surrounded the sand art, they held placards reading “clean air is my right” and encouraged people to go green with the use of bicycles. Scientists say India is likely to be hit hard by global warming. It is already one of the most disaster-prone nations in the world and many of its 1.2 billion people live in areas vulnerable to hazards such as floods, cyclones and droughts.
