Army terms deployment across West Bengal as routine annual exercise

Kolkata, Dec 02 (ANI): The Indian Army today rubbished allegations of its personnel collecting money at toll booths across West Bengal and called them 'baseless'. Calling it a routine annual exercise, officiating General Officer Commanding (GOC) of Headquarters Bengal Area, Major General Sunil Yadav, said the army is only collecting data of the heavy vehicles passing through 80 data collection centres. Adding that similar exercises have taken place in the past, Yadav said that the current exercise will continue till tonight. The Indian Army's clarification has come following West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's allegations that there is a coup in the making.
