83-year-old cancer patient chooses voluntary fast unto death
Kolkata, Sep 29 (ANI): An 83-year-old woman Sohini Devi Duggar, resident of South Kolkata belonging to Jain community, has chosen ‘Santhara’ for herself, which is the way to attain ‘Moksha’ or salvation according to Jainism. ‘Santhara’ is done in full consciousness and it requires the practitioner to fast until death. Sohini Devi decided to go for ‘Santhara’ when she could not bear the pain of throat cancer, which she is undergoing since 2015.
