India Celebrates Kartik Purnima

Allahabad, Nov 25 (ANI): Kartik Purnima, which is also called “Tripuri or Tripurari Purnima”, is the Full Moon day of the Kartik month. According to Hindu tradition the month of Kartik, which is usually in October or November, is one of the holiest periods in the Hindu calendar. People believe that, it was during this day when Lord Vishnu and Shiva descended on the earth. It is believed that if you worship them throughout the month, you can be immensely benefited. During Kartik Purnima, people throng the Shiva and Vishnu temples in large numbers. As per one more legend, on the day of Kartik Purnima, Lord Vishnu was personified in the Matsya form and saved Manu .This is also a reason why Kartik Purnima is auspicious. Many Hindu deities are worshipped during the period. The most celebrated festival, Divali, falls within this period. The worship of Ganga Devi (the Goddess who presides over the Holy Waters), the triad of Shiva (the Destroyer), Brahma (the Creator) and Vishnu (the Preserver) are worshipped. The Kartik Purnima is celebrated on the last day of the month of Kartik, which is also a full moon which occurred last night. Kartik Purnima is also known as Tripuri Purnima and Ganga Snaan.
