Flood situation remains grim in Assam

Lakhimpur, July 06 (ANI): The flood situation in Assam remained grim on Monday (July 06) as several districts experienced heavy rains in the past 24 hours. A report by Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) said more than 65,000 people have been affected in 125 villages across the state. The worst affected districts were Dhemaji, Bongaigaon and Sonitpur. The flood waters have also damaged a road and breached an embankment in Sonitpur. In Lakhimpur district, several low-lying areas were flooded after fresh rains. People were seen wading through knee-deep water at many areas. ASDMA said about 4,000 hectares of crop areas were under water. The death toll in this year's flood in Assam has remained at five - two in Lakhimpur and one each in Bongaigaon, Baksa and Sonitpur. The Brahmaputra river was flowing above the danger mark at Nematighat in Jorhat, the ASDMA added.
