With great many pieces of Mughal architectural traditions in their most elegant and royal artistic expression it is a must see place in your itinerary of heritage tour in Agra.

The History of Fatehpur Sikri

It was first built by the Sikriwal Rajput Emperor around 1500 AD and in the subsequent time after falling in the hands of Mughal Emperor Akbar it served as his capital for a brief period from 1571 to 1585. The rule of Akbar contributed hugely to the building of many of the heritage forts and palaces in the tradition of Mughal art within Fatehpur Sikri. Actually Akbar in his young age of 28 when he shifted his capital here planned this walled city in its present shape and the construction took as long 15 years. The imperial complex of the walled city had been left by the Emperor in 1585 mainly because of the paucity of water supply and its close proximity to the Rajputana which was then the main rival of Mughals in India. The long heritage and historical connection that produced almost a small city with so many architectural wonders that represent various indigenous and Mughal traditions, made this place so special for the visitors in heritage tour in Agra.
