Gandhi Smriti or Gandhi Remembrance is the place where Father of Nation, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi spent his last 144 days of life. It houses a number of articles associated with Gandhi's life and death. A visit to Gandhi Smriti is must to honor and to know the person who believed in non-violence.
Gandhi Smriti is the place where Gandhi lived in his last days before he was assassinated by Nathuram Godse. Government of India acquired this house in 1971 and turned it into a Gandhi Smriti.

Brief History of Gandhi Smriti Delhi:
Originally it was the house of B.D. Birla. The Mahatma Gandhi being close to him stayed here from 9 September 1947 to 30 January 1948. He was assassinated here by Nathuram Godse.
Government of India acquired it in 1971 and preserved it as a place to remember Father of Nation i.e. Mr. Mahatma Gandhi.
It was opened to the public on August 15, 1973.
The room where Mahatma Gandhi lived and the prayer ground where he held a mass congregation every evening has been preserved and is being visited by many tourists.
