Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh was born on 10 June 1921 to Prince Andrew of Greece and Denmark and Princess Alice of Battenberg in Greece as Prince Philip of Greece and Denmark. He has 4 elder sisters Margarita, Theodora, Cecilie, and Sophie.

He is great great grandson of Queen Victoria and the husband of Queen Elizabeth II.

In 1939 when King George VI and Queen Elizabeth were on the tour of Royal Naval College, Dartmouth he fell in love with Elizabeth. Later in the year he joined the British Royal Navy at the age of 18.

In the year 1946, Philip asked the King for his daughter's hand in marriage which the King granted. He adopted the surname Mountbatten from his mother's family and became a naturalized British subject.

He married Elizabeth on 20 November 1947. During this time he was given the title of Duke of Edinburgh.

He became Prince of the United Kingdom in 1957.
