P. Chidambaram

Chidambaram Palaniappan, popularly known as P Chidambaram is an Indian politician, lawyer and social activists.....

Chidambaram Palaniappan, popularly known as P Chidambaram is an Indian politician, lawyer and social activists, who served the nation as being Union Home Minister and Union Finance Minister. At present, P Chidambaram is holding Home Affairs ministry in the first and second term of United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government in the Prime Ministerialship of Manmohan Singh.

P Chidambaram was born at Kanadukathan, Distt. Sivaganga (Tamil Nadu) on 16th September 1945. He pursued Bachelor of law from Madras Law University and completed MBA from Harvard Business School in 1968. He completed his master degree from Loyola College, Chennai.

After practicing as an advocate in the Chennai High Court and Supreme Court of India, he entered into India?s center politics by winning Lok Sabha election from the Shivaganga constituency of Tamil Nadu in general elections held in 1984. He was re-elected from the same constituency in the general elections of 1989, 1991, 1996, 1998, 2004 and 2009.

Chidambaram is considered one of the most successful Finance Ministers of India, who made several progressive changes for Indian economy, but his name came into controversy in 2G Spectrum bandwidth allocation when A Raja was step down from Telecom Ministry. Chidambaram was Finance Minister at that time.

He got married to Nalini Chidambaram who is also a senior advocate of Chennai High Court and Supreme Court of India and the couple have one male child.
