The Maoris first inhabited New Zealand in 1000 AD. In 1642 Abel Tasman, a Dutch navigator discovered New Zealand, hence the name Tasmania stuck. British captain James Cook made three voyages to this islands beginning in 1769. Finally in 1840 British colonialised it. Geographical Information on New Zealand:
New Zealand is located in the southeast of Australia and consists of two main islands along with a number of smaller islands that are scattered from the tropical to the Antarctic. The North Island and the South Island are the two main Islands of New Zealand and they are separated by the Cook Strait.
The climate throughout the country is mild and temperate, mainly maritime, with temperatures rarely fall below 0 °C or rising above 30°C in populated areas.
