He was born in Ranchi, Jharkhand. Dhoni at first was a goalkeeper and used to play football but later he started playing cricket on the advice of his football coach as a wicket keeper. Dhoni made his ODI debut in 2004 against Bangladesh and Test debut in 2005 against Srilanka.

Under him Indian won the ODI World Cup in 2011 and he became the 2nd Indian captain to do so besides Kapil Dev.

He was also the captain when India lifted the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007. Under him India has won CB series in 2007-08, Border Gavaskar Trophy in 2008, gained 1st position in ICC ranking of T20, ODI and Test match.

He also led Chennai Super Kings to 2 consecutive wins in Indian Premier League and also won Champions League in 2010.

He is the most earning cricketer of the world.
