Here we will like to throw some light on the formation of Janata Dal united also called JD (U). Let us see the progression of the JD (U). It was the year 1994 when George Fernandes resigned from the then Janata Dal and formed Samata Party. Later the Janata Dal got disintegrated and the party remained a very small entity led by its leader Sharad Yadav. Later Samata Party merged with Janata Dal and name Janata Dal (United) came into existence.

Presently, Sharad Yadav is its chairperson and leader in Lok Sabha, While Shivanand Tiwari is its leader in Rajya Sabha. The party has 20 seats in Lok Sabha and 9 seats in Rajya Sabha. The ideology of the party is integral humanism, secularism and socialism. It leader Nitish Kumar is the chief Minister of Bihar for two consecutive terms.
