Inflation in general term is a price hike of essential commodities and services within a certain period of time. It is used to mark rational ratio of price hike within two certain periods like weekly, monthly, tri-monthly, half annually and annually for an economy. In another terms, we can say that inflation is inversely proposal to purchasing power means, the more inflation, the less purchasing power.

Inflation is an essential tool for any country to control the price of commodities, manage your budget, and monitor your growth rate. In India, there are two types of tools used for measuring inflation Wholesale Price Index (WPI) and Commodities Price Index (CPI). The Wholesale Price Index is a comprehensive tool for measuring the price of representative basket of wholesale goods. India releases it WPI data on every Thursday weekly.

Consumer Price Index (CPI) in India comprises multiple series classified based on different economic groups. There are four series, viz the CPI UNME (Urban Non-Manual Employee), CPI AL (Agricultural Labourer), CPI RL (Rural Labourer) and CPI IW (Industrial Worker).
