The central area of the island is flat due to its expansive weight, which gradually leads to the sloping ice cap covers. Besides this, there is a narrow and barren mountainous rocky coast. The highest point is Gunnbjorn at a height of 3,694m.

The climate of Greenland is extremely harsh with only two months of warm summers. It has an Arctic climate varying according to the different regions. The winters are extremely severe and most of the areas receive heavy snowfall. The northern and central part of the island has mostly freezing temperatures.

The economy of the Greenland is largely dependent on the production of fish and the Danish subsidies accounting to over 50% of the government revenues. Tourism also forms an integral part of its economy. The natural resources include coal, iron ore, zinc, diamonds, uranium, hydropower, niobium and considerable contents of oil and natural gas.

Culture and Cuisine of Greenland:

The culture of Greenland bears much familiarity with the Inuit tradition. The islanders practice ice fishing. Seals are also hunted by the people for commercial and consumption purposes. They build their houses with wood with sloping roofs as it receives snowfall mostly throughout the year. Besides this, the islanders are greatly skilled in arts and craft depicting their ancient myths and legends.

The main ingredient in Greenlandic food comprises meat from marine mammals, game, birds and fish. The high meat content in the diet is very important for the islanders to survive in the harsh weather conditions of the country. The basic ingredients consist of fish, poultry, game (walrus, reindeer, partridges, seal and whale) and wild berries. suaasat is the national dish of the island, prepared with seal boiled meat and rice and onions. Another popular dish is the mattak , which is basically the skin of whale with a thin layer of fat, and it is eaten raw with square shape.
