Apart from the long distance travelers this railway station also caters to the need of local commuters who visit the city for a number of reasons.

This railway station in the heart of the city comes under the eastern railway. The Sealdah railway station comprises of three terminals Sealdah North, Sealdah Main and Sealdah South. So this railway station in Kolkata is witness of a large number of passengers using this railway station for their needs.

Here it will be relevant to know what the significance of these three terminals is. The north terminal of Sealdah railway station acts as a station for suburban travel. The main terminal of Sealdah is used for trains to Bandel, Kalyani, Shanitpur and other stations.

Sealadah main station is used for trains that travel to long distances.

The south terminal of Sealdah is again used for the suburban trains. One can board suburban trains to Diamond Harbour-Budgebudge, Canning, and Namkhana from here.

The station also offers maintenance facilities for the trains.
