BHU Varanasi

BHU (Banaras Hindu University) is a university in the city of Varanasi in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh in India.

BHU (Banaras Hindu University) is a university in the city of Varanasi in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh in India. It is a central university and it commands the distinction of being largest university in India in terms of residential campus. And this central university houses some 24,000 students in its sprawling campus 1350 acres. The university was founded in the year 1916 with the efforts of Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya.

The BHU is situated on the land donated by Kashi Naresh, the then ruler of the region. You can find students from different parts of the India and neighboring countries residing in a large number of hostels situated in and outside the campus. The institute offers a large number of courses in the streams like engineering, arts, commerce, science, management, visuals arts, Sanskrit, dental sciences and agriculture. Most of its colleges and institutions are pioneer in the field of education. In a recent survey of Indian universities conducted by India today the Banaras Hindu University was ranked second in India. Recently, the institute has started its south campus named Rajiv Gandhi South Campus in Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh. In brief, the institute is realizing the goals of its founder Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya.
