Micronesia news : Micronesia located in the western Pacific Ocean is an archipelago of more than 600 islands that are grouped into four states of Kosrae, Pohnpei, Chuuk (Truk) and Yap. In 1947 the island of Micronesia became a US-administered Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands. The colonial power like Portuguese, Spanish, Germans and Japanese established their control on various parts of Micronesia Island. In 1986, the Federated States signed a Compact of Free Association with the USA that assures its independence and US defence support. The Micronesia has mind-boggling diversity in languages, customs and folklore. The island of Yap still trade in the ancient stone currency and wear traditional garments. Micronesia has Parliamentary democracy without having any formal political parties.
