Algeria News: Algeria is Africa?s second largest country that extends from a densely populated Mediterranean coast to the emptiness of Northern Sahara. Algeria won independence from France in 1962. In the 1990 Algerian politics was dominated by bloody clashes involving the military and Islamist militants. In 1992 the general election won by an Islamist Party but militant groups killed the members of the Islamist Party. This incident put Algeria in bloody civil war in which more than 100,000 people were slaughtered. With the assistance from United Nation many peace related programs throughout Algeria were conducted and motivated armed militants to surrender under amnesty programs that were designed for national reconciliation. Finally in 2004 Presidential election was conducted in Algeria, which brought hope of peace and development among its citizens.
