Tue, 01 Jan 2008:

London, July 31 (ANI): A pair of fine cotton bloomers that Queen Victoria once wore have fetched 4,500 pounds at auction.

The 'exciting' knickers bearing a VR monogram were actually expected to fetch 500 pounds.

The pants are open-crotch with separate legs joined by a draw-string at the wai, a popular style in the late Victorian era.

A family from Lincolnshire put them up for auction, and a Canadian buyer has finally purchased them.

Charles Hanson, the auctioneer, said that the size suggested that Victoria had a "very wide girth".

"These pants, considering their provenance and pedigree, are very exciting," Times Online quoted him as saying. (ANI)
