Tue, 01 May 2007:  May 1: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh inaugurated the Campus of the Institute of Studies in Industrial Development in the national capital, today. While addressing the public, Singh stressed on generating employment in industrial sector and ensure labour intensive sector to speed up the process of industrialisatn.

The UPA government has largely supported the initiatives of bringing rapid industrialisation for curbing the problem of unemployment and to give boost to the economy. The focus area has gradually shifted from agriculture towards industry and business. Singh, in his address tried to explain the shift and said, ??While adequate emphasis has to be laid on agricultural productivity ?? the per capita land being less than 1.5 hectares, there are several limitations to expanding employment opportunities in agriculture.?

The left wing parties however seems not to be happy with this move. The parties fear that the rapid growth in industrialisation is slowly deteriorating the environment and has been responsible for the disparity in the country.

Quite aware of the environment degradation and displacement problems faced by the country Singh further said that concerns like displacement of people, environmental damage and alienation of the working class have to be dealt with. The Prime Minister encouraged small and medium enterprises in bringing out the development.
