Diggi Raja booked for intimidating Mayawati

Keeping Election Commission’s directives at bay not to use offensive language during electioneering, the AICC general secretary and former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Digvijay Singh resorted to objectionable remarks against UP Chief Minister Mayawati and booked in the connection on Tuesday night.
The Local Sub Divisional Magistrate filed the complaint against the senior Congress leader with Mallawan Kotwali police last night after Singh reportedly made derogatory remarks at a campaign rally Monday in Mallwan locality in Hardoi.
“I am challenging and warning the BSP leadership against victimising our party workers,” Singh said, and reminded the UP chief minister saying that “Mayawati should not harass our party members as she has a CBI case pending against her and when we form the next government she will be in trouble.”
Singh, however, have refuted that he threatened Mayawati. He said he was just saying Mayawati to stop harassing Congress workers and falsely implicating them in criminal cases in Uttar Pradesh.
Election Commission had earlier written to presidents of all the political parties directing to instruct their leaders to keep abstain using offensive language during poll campaign.
The Opposition, who has been accusing Central government of exploiting CBI for its advantage, did not leave any stone unturned to attack the Manmohan Singh government for demeaning the office of CBI.
“Congress has been misusing CBI to harass its opponents. There could be no bigger proof than Singh’s recent remarks,” BJP spokesman Ravi Shankar Prasad said.
