The “Jadu ki Jhappi and puppy” (hug and kiss) remark cost Bollywood actor and Samajwadi Party (SP) general secretary Sanjay Dutt dear as he was booked on Saturday on the ground of passing “sexist remarks” on BSP supremo and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati.

Pratapgarh DistricMagistrate, Pinki Joel, issued notice to Sanjay Dutt and asked him to reply within 24 hours.

Later, an FIR was registered against the actor-turned-politician for his disparaging remarks. Dutt was booked under Section 294 (obscene acts and songs) of the IPC.

On Friday, Dutt blamed Mayawati for doing no developmental work in the region and offered her Jadu ki Jhappi and pappi during an election rally in pratapgarh. He was accompanied by another Samajwadi Party general secretary Amar Singh and Independent MLA Raghuraj Pratap Singh alias Raja Bhaiyya, campaigning for party candidate Akshya Pratap Singh, cousin of Raja Bhaiyya.

“I will give Mayawati both a hug and a kiss (jaadu ki jhappi & pappi) to Mayawati. In her governance there are taps but no water, bulbs but no electricity, and hospitals without beds,” said Dutt.

This is the second instance in a week when Dutt was booked for derogatory remarks. On April 14, an FIR was filed against Dutt for passing out alleged communal remarks in an election rally in Mau district. The district administration swung into action and filed cases against him under Section 171 (H) of the IPC for violating Model Code of Conduct.

Dutt had said that he was given third degree by the Mumbai police during police custody because he was the son of a Muslim lady.

Dutt was to contest from Lucknow Lok Sabha constituency on SP ticket but was banned from contesting elections by the Supreme Court after his plea seeking stay his conviction in connection with the 1993 Mumbai blast case was turned down.
