Dharna for reservation by visually impaired students

Quotas and reservations..... It seems the war is nowhere going to end. Every section of society today is fighting for reservation in one field or the other.

On Thursday about 20 members of the National Federation of Blind Students (NFB) supported by a few activists from All-India Students Association (AI) protested outside the department of education for unfairly implementing the reservations for the B.

ED course.

The students held out a dharna against the unjust implementation of the quota for the physically challenged (PH) students in the B. ED course.

According to an NFB member, the seats reserved for visually impaired students in the course have been reduced from twelve to seven by the university and that the university tried to reduce the seats reserved for visually impaired candidates last year as well.

The protesters were university post-graduate students who bravely marched out to conserve the rights of their fellow students.

The joint secretary of DU unit of AISA, Ashish Bhardwaj said the university had admitted three visually challenged candidates belonging to the OBC category in the general category for physically handicapped candidates, thus reducing the seats for general category

What protesters demanded was that the candidates who are shifted to the OBC category for VC candidates should free seats for PH candidates in the general category.
