Govt to modernise aviation security mechanism

In a bid to review the response mechanism of various organisations involved in aviation security in case of an emergency, the Cabinet Secretary K M Chadrashekhar on Saturday held a meeting with all concerned involved agencies in New Delhi.

On the backdrop of February 01 incident of disruptive behaviour oa passenger in Indigo Flight 6E-334 that led an emergency landing at Indira Gandhi International Airport, Delhi, it was decided to update the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) of all concerned agencies.

The SOPs procedure would cover a faster and effective response, smoother flow of information and decision-making process, and better airport infrastructure prescribed for emergency situation and all time operational readiness.

Moreover, it was also decided that a special training is essential for the pilots and cabin crew members of all airlines including civil airports to handle emergency situations, along with briefing programmes for all concerned agencies. The need of regular emergency drills was also discussed in the meet.

Secretaries in the Ministries of Home, Defence, Civil Aviation, External Affairs, Cabinet Secretariat, and senior officers of PIB, DGCA, CISF, IB, NSG, BCAS, AAI, DIAL and Home Secretary, Government of NCT, Delhi have attended the meeting.
