Bandh disrupts normal life in Capital

The country-wide bandh called by Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) and VHP on Thursday over the Amarnath land transfer issue too affected the capital city as some of the busy market places remained closed and roads were blocked by bandh supporters. However, no unprecedented incident has been reported amid tight security cdoned off by Delhi Police.

Markets at Karolbagh, Lakshmi Nagar and in most parts of East Delhi were hit by the strike. Though some shops were opened during the morning but were later closed down after news of violence in other parts of the country reportedly spread. However, most parts of North Delhi remained unaffected by the bandh and life was quite normal as the day progressed.

However as news come, the bandh turned violent in parts of Madhya Pradesh, leaving two persons dead in Indore; Maharastra, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Assam, Jharkhand and BJP rules southern state Karnataka. On the contrary amid preparation of the annual Rath Yatra in various places of country especially in Orissa, West Bengal and Gujarat, people remained out of the influence.

As far as Jammu Kashmir is concerned, curfews remained imposed for the third consecutive day and in a series of violent activities reported, about 30 people get injured today in Jammu region.
