Washington, Nov 7 (IANS) Testosterone perks up libido in post-menopausal women, according to a new study.
The study of over 800 women from the US, Canada, Australia, Britain and Sweden is the first to show that testosterone administered by a skin patch can boost the sex drive of post-menopausal women.
Previous studies have shown testosterone treatment for low libido is beneficial for women undergoing oestrogen therapy.
However, this study shows testosterone by itself could be a good alternative for women who do not want to take oestrogen, according to a Cedars-Sinai press release.
Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre experts co-authored the study that appeared in Thursday's edition of the New England Journal of Medicine.
