Government to facilitate solar energy in the capital

Making solar energy as an efficient, competitive and reliable energy source, the Government of NCT in Delhi has made mandatory use of solar water heaters for certain category of buildings.

The recent step came with government’s to promote solar energy as renewable engy source, which is a viable option for generating cheap electricity for majority of population living in the capital.

Use of solar water heaters as energy conservation devices are also to overcome power shortage and for Demand Side Management.

The administration has also announced to provide solar water heaters at a rebate price of Rs. 6,000. In addition the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) is providing interest subsidy on an upfront basis so that loans at an effective rate of 2% are available to the domestic users from various banks and financial institutions.

With this the device can be used to convert solar radiation to thermal or heat energy, which can be used to heat waters for use in homes, buildings or swimming pools.

Moreover considering the average energy consumption in India, Solar Energy could be a potential option to assist the growing need of future population. However, government needs to bring more investment into the technology making it cheaper as the installation of solar energy system remains a high cost affair.
