MAMTA scheme to care mother and infant

In order to achieve total health for mother and newborn, the Delhi State Health Mission has launched a scheme called ‘MAMTA’ on Thursday March 27 to bring down maternal and infant mortality rate in the national capital.


Twenty-five hospitals/nursing homes have been listed under the ‘Mam friendly Hospital’ to make available the special facilities to provide equitable, quality healthcare for citizens especially, the mother-son under public private partnership.

With the aim of reducing maternal and infant mortality and to put an end to the practice of female foeticide, provisions of institutional delivery are made for pregnant women as a significant component of healthcare under the scheme.

As per the scheme, Rs 4000 will be provided to the private hospital/ nursing homes providing comprehensive care to a pregnant woman who comprises antenatal care, institutional delivery, new-born care and post natal care.

Provisions for the beneficiary:

At least three antenatal checkups with all necessary investigations including ultrasound of pregnant woman registered under the scheme.

All pregnant women will be facilitated with injection TT and iron Folic Acid Tablets during their pregnancy.

Provision of institutional delivery facilities are made with emergency obstetric care to all registered pregnant women and essential care to the newborn including administration of birth doses of vaccines to newborns.

After giving birth to child, one postnatal checkup within first week of delivery but not later than 14 days will be provided to mother and newborn.

Eligibility for beneficiaries:

* The pregnant woman must belong to the BPL/ SC/ ST/ category and should be a resident of Delhi.

* The pregnant woman should not be less than 19 years of age.

* The pregnant woman should not have more than one living child.

Registration of beneficiaries: The pregnant woman shall be enrolled under MAMTA only after producing following documents:

Proof of age: Ration card/ School Certificate/ Birth Certificate/ Affidavit/ any other relevant document clinical assessment of the attending doctor in absence of any other proof.

Resident Proof: Ration Card or Election I-card or any other document indicating specific address.

Affidavit regarding number of living children will be required.

BPL Card/ Income certification of BPL Status from the SDM/ Certificate of SC/ ST issued by competent authority.

Other Benefits:

The woman delivering under MAMTA scheme will also be entitled for cash incentive of Rs 600 available under Janani Suraksha Yojna.

If woman under the MAMTA scheme delivers a girl child then the girl child will be entitled to receive benefits under ‘Protections of Girl Child Scheme “LADLI”, a scheme of Directorate of Social Welfare.
