Oct 01: BSP lead Uttar Pradesh government on Sunday negated the service of 7,400 more constables who were recruited during the previous Mulayam Singh regimeChief Minister Mayawati continuing the process of corruption clearout carried it for the third time and kept another seven IPS officer under scrutiny.

Mr J.N. Chamber, principal home secretary of the state while announcing the decission said that after inspecting 18 more recruitments board it is found that all 7,400 police personnel were employed with forgery documents or any other means of malpractice.

The latest inspection on 18 recruitment boards also resulted in the suspension of 7 IPS officers as for their irregular activities in various boards. Cases have been registered against all officers under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

Earlier the state government on Sep 11 cancelled the appointments of 6,504 police personnel including 12 IPS officers and then a week later on Sep 18 dismissed 3,964 policemen and suspended 6 senior IPS officers on charges of mismanagement in their selection.

The 7,400 include 1,900 of the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) and 1,200 of the Police Radio department. With Sunday’s suspension order the number of sacked police personnel rose to 17,848 and in coming days there are many more to follow, as it is only in the case of 25 boards. There are another 20 recruitment boards to be inspected soon.

There is a total of 55 recruitment board formed during the regime of Mulayam Singh in 2005-2006 and it seems that there is a large scale of mismanagement by these boards indicating a huge scam behind this.

However, this time the report has also indicated some kind of sexual abuse of women candidates before recruitments. ADG special task force Shailja Kant Mishra describes this as shocking and shame to those board authorities who asked or even forced women candidates to sexual exploitation.

Chief Minister Mayawati after coming to power had ordered for a probe to scan these recruitment boards and it is the prime reason behind the rate of increasing corruption and crime in the state.
