Pakistan, Wed, 20 May 2009 IANS

Islamabad, May 20 (IANS) A summary of Pakistan's budget for fiscal 2009-10 has been sent for approval to Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani ahead of its expected presentation in parliament June 6.

'It is up to the prime minister to approve June 6 or any other date for the announcement of the national budget in parliament,' APP news agency Wednesday quoted a top finance ministry official as saying.

He said the ministry had received budgetary proposals and suggestions from various stakeholders and these had been forwarded to the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) for finalisation by May 31.

After finalisation and approval by the cabinet, the budget for the fiscal year beginning July 1 would be presented to parliament.

Explaining the procedure for preparing the budget, the official said that every October, the finance ministry asks the ministries and departments to submit their revenue and expenditure proposals.

The exercise is completed by May the following year.
