Bale, Ledger's 'Dark Knight' continues to top US box office

Washington, Aug 4 (ANI): Christian Bale and the late Heath Ledger continued to reign at the box office with their Batman movie 'The Dark Knight,' raking in 43.8 million dollars over the weekend.

 

Studio estimates show that the second highest grossing over the weekend was 'The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon', which earned 42.5 million dollars.

 

'Step Brothers' stood third fetching 16.3 million dollars while Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth musical 'Mamma Mia!' came in at the fourth spot taking in 13.1 million dollars, reports E! Online.

 

Rounding off the top five was 'Journey to the Center of the Earth', which earned 6.9 million dollars.

 

The list of the top-grossing weekend films are:

 

1. The Dark Knight, $43.8 million

 

2. The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon, $42.5 million

 

3. Step Brothers, $16.3 million

 

4. Mamma Mia!, $13.1 million

 

5. Journey to the Center of the Earth, $6.9 million

8. WALL-E, $4.7 million

 

9. The X-Files: I Want to Believe, $3.4 million
