Kolkata, May 19 (IANS) Scoring a brace in each half, Syria's Al Karamah drubbed Mohun Bagan 4-0 in the AFC Cup tie at Howrah near here Tuesday.
The superior Syrians went into the lead as early as the 18th minute through Haani Al Taiar, who scored the last goal for his side in the second session of the one-sided game at the Howrah Municipal Stadium.
In between, Alaa Al Shubli and Mohamed Alhamwi found the target for the winners.
Taiar drew first blood as he cut into the box and intercepted a chip from mideo Fahd Aodi, before adroitly foxing the Bagan rearguard to put the ball home.
The visitors doubled the lead 21 minutes later when Aodi's power-packed left-footer was partially saved by Mohun Bagan custodian Shilton Pau, and Al Shubli followed up well to coolly place in a grounder.
Continuing the offensive, Alhamwi made the scoreline to 3-0 with his 61st minute strike, exploiting the chinks in the Bagan defence. Aodi's curling free-kick from the left was fisted by Paul but Alhamwi ran in, outpaced N.S. Manju, and flicked the ball in.
Bagan's ignominy was complete when Taiar converted a Y. Shahen through in the 73rd minute to make the final score 4-0.
Bagan's only chance for a reducer came when Lalramluaha's floater from the right beat Karamah's otherwise reliable defenders, but N.S. Manju failed to keep his header on target.
