S. Asian women more vulnerable to gender discrimination: SAARC body
Islamabad, Aug.4 (ANI): Women in South Asia are more vulnerable to discrimination, social injustice, gender equity and equality as compared to those living in western countries, a meeting of the SAARC Gender Database has opined.
Participants reportedly discussed prioritised indicators on violence against women in the South Asian region, and came to the conclusion that the region that is home to nearly a third of humanity, half of which were represented by women, have the least access to development.

The meeting further said that women are less likely to have access to health services, enjoy civil, political and legal equality with men and benefits from economic and social security.
The SAARC Gender Database meeting discussed and reviewed several prioritised indicators, which are to be utilized in data collection on Violence Against Women in South Asian Countries.
The indicators were categorized in several types including, sexual violence, trafficking, domestic violence, violence at workplace, abortions, custodial violence, acid throwing and suicide.
In addition, the prioritised indicators also included several issues related to women's health including life expectancy and sex-ratio, HIV status, disability, occupational health or health in work settings, reproductive health, family planning, pre-natal peri-natal, post-natal services, infection control, micro-nutrient supplements and safe water and sanitation.
