New Delhi, Sat, 16 May 2009 NI Wire

The Indian National Congress is again on the way to repeat history of previous election results in Delhi, as according to election reports so far, Congress was leading on the six Lok Sabha parliamentary constituencies in the national capital.

According to election results, except Mahabal Mishra from West Delhi, all the six candidates were leading in first four hours of counting of votes on Saturday.

Jagdish Mukhi from Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) was ahead from West Delhi alone while from congress, Kapil Sibal from Chandni Chowk, Sandeep Dikshit from East Delhi, Ramesh Kumar from South Delhi, Krishna Tirath from Northwest Delhi, J P Agarwal from Northeast Delhi and Ajay Maken from New Delhi were ahead from their rivals.

In last general Lok Sabha election 2004, Congress had won six seats while BJP had secured only one – Vijay Kumar Malhotra from South Delhi.

This time all the constituencies were delimitated and many Assembly constituencies were interchanged into other parliamentary constituencies.

In 2004, Sandeep Dikshit (Cong) from East Delhi, Krishna Tirath (Cong) from Karolbagh, Sajjan Kumar (Cong) from Outer Delhi, Ajay Maken (Cong) from New Delhi and Kapil Sibbal from Chandni Chowk had won the elections.

This time, Sajjan Kumar could not get the party ticket due to his alleged involvement in 1984 anti-Sikh riots.
