London, May 14 (IANS) Doctors, politicians, human rights and left-wing campaigners Thursday demonstrated in London and Edinburgh to protest the continued incarceration of doctor and political activist Binayak Sen.
The demonstration in London was held outside the Indian High Commission, while the one in Edinburgh took place at the Royal College of Surgeons.
In Edinburgh, a group of campaigners chained themselves together to campaign for the release of Sen, who completed two years Thursday in Raipur Central Jail in the state of Chhattisgarh for alleged Maoist links - a charge he and he family have vehemently denied.
The protesters, dressed in white coats and masks, included Scottish Parliament member and medical practitioner Richard Simpson, who said: 'I am here as an MSP, a doctor and a previous justice minister within the Scottish government, to make sure we get this man released.'
'The fact that Dr Sen has not been allowed bail in the past two years and his health has been deteriorating for what seem to be fairly trumped up charges is wholly inappropriate,' he added.
The second anniversary of his imprisonment is being marked around the world, with 22 Nobel laureates signing a letter calling for his release.
