This is to be known that on Wednesday and Thursday Hundreds of girls of Delhi University led by the girls of Indraprastha College held demonstrations in the campus on Thursday to protest the inaction on the part of police of Mukherjee Nagar against the incident of molestation of girls from Manipur, students of I P College.
Incident of molestation took place in north-west Delhi’s Mukherjee Nagar when some girls were returning from the fresher’s party on Kingsway camp. Some boys who are said to come to appear for police constabulary exams tried to molest them.
Girls told that they called the help line but no response was there then they also went to Mukherjee Nagar police station where they could find no relief as none of the cops came to their help. They also refused to register the complaint.
Mukherjee Nagar SHO and two other constables were suspended on the grounds of insensitivity to the problem of the victims and an enquiry has been ordered. After the National commission for women took note of the incident and had a meeting with police commissioner of Delhi and VC of the university. NCW demanded the deployment of more women constables in and around campus. Mr. Dadwal also promised of getting the FIR lodged.
A student of DU has also filed a petition in Delhi High Court alleging that police remained inactive on the complaint by the girls. As a result, Delhi High Court asked the Delhi Police counsel to present the facts about the alleged molestation of DU girls by the candidates who came for police recruitment exam.
Girls have demanded the cancellation of the police recruitment test held on last Sunday for which the offenders appeared. They also demanded that exams not related to the university should not be conducted in Campus.
A case of molestation has been registered at Mukherjee Nagar police station and Maurice Nagar police station after a long struggle by the girls and intervention of NCW and college authorities.
In campus incidents of harassment and molestation are increasing as there are complaints against various professors too. And there is lethargic action even on the part of university authorities.
