India endorses economic and judicial reforms in Bangladesh

May 02: Showing its concern, Indian government has today declared its support to the reforms that have been undertaken by the caretaker government in Bangladesh. Officials from India mentioned that it was the need of the hour and that the Indian government hopes that the reforms in economic and judicial sector will further provide a better chance to the people, to express their free will.

Indian Foreign Secretary, Shivshankar Menon, told reporters that India wants a peaceful, stable and moderate Bangladesh and the restoration of democracy in Bangladesh has become necessary. The military backed care taker government of Bangladesh, that exists as of now, is doing the right thing in building a fare democratic set up and India favours this.

Talking to the media Menon also said that any positive reform will give a chance to the people of Bangladesh to express their will, freely and fairly through elections.

The government, after its installation earlier this year, has launched an effective campaign against corruption. It has already taken into cognizance some effective decisions against high profile political leaders including the former president Sheikh Hasina and Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) leader Khaleda Zia.

As far as judicial reforms are concerned, the Governments is doing its best to clean up judiciary and make it independent and without any influence. This was quoted by the state news agencies. The government has also come up with plans to set up a supreme judicial council in order to establish a high profile judiciary system, which will provide justice to all and without any discrimination.
