Jangipur (West Bengal), May 7 (IANS) External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee said Thursday that the voter turnout was very high - around 70 percent - in his largely rural West Bengal constituency that the senior Congress leader is hoping to retain.
Mukherjee told reporters: 'The exact polling percentage is not yet available and officials do not know yet... but from our own leaders and workers it is estimated that the percentage of polling is very high.'
'Around 70 percent voter turnout has been estimated.'
He also said that the situation in areas affected by violence in the constituency was under control.
'There have been reports about attempted disturbance in one-two polling stations, but now things are under control,' Mukherjee said.
Seventeen Lok Sabha constituencies, including Jangipur, in West Bengal went to the polls Thursday.
