Charges levied against 26/11 accused Kasab

A Special Sessions Court housed in Arthur Road jail framed charges against the sole survivor accused of the Mumbai mayhem, Ajmal Amir Kasab, and two of his Indian accomplices.

Judge M L Tahilyani, hearing Mumbai terror attack cases, accepted all 86 charges framed by the Mumbai Police against the lone captured terrorist who along with nine alleged Pakistani partners spread terror on the streets of Mumbai on Nov 26 and for three continuous days in Taj and Oberoi-Trident Hotels.

Kasab pleaded not guilty for all the 86 charges levied upon him by the police, but accepted that he is a Pakistani national and not a minor. The charges involve murder, waging war against the country, among others.

It had wasted almost a week time of court after Kasab’s lawyer argued in the court that his client was a minor at the time of Mumbai attacks on 26/11 and so he had the right to be tried in a juvenile court under juvenile law. Ultimately, it had been proved that Kasab was not a minor, albeit his age was around 21-22 year.

The charges were also framed against 37 others including Fahim Ansari and Sabauddin Ahmed, the two suspected Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists who are accused of assisting ten gunmen in carrying out the Mumbai terror attacks.
