Delhi, Wed, 02 May 2007 NI Wire

MAY 02: Till now fragging (killings by security personnel within a company or division) within security forces has been the talk of the town. But now the situation has slightly changed. Angry and frustrated security men are proving to be a threat as they lose control of themselves and start targeting the civilians. The civilians appear to be not too far from the bullets of these provoked security men.

In a latest incident of this kind, two employees of the state Government were injured when a drunken CRPF soldier opened fire on them here early this morning.

Sepoy Dukosowa, was on guard duty at the high-security Kot Bhalwal jail in Jammu, which houses over 300 foreign and local militants. Sources within jail authorities revealed that the drunken soldier entered into one of the barracks of the jail and opened fire after arguments with his seniors.

Jail authorities confirmed that after the incident CRPF personnel ran away along with the rifle and four magazines. “According to the information reached here, the drunk jawan reached Purkhoo area in Jammu city and entered into the premises of a reservoir-cum-overhead water tank and demanded Rs 500 from the two employees on duty at gunpoint, senior jail official said.

The employees apparently didn’t had that much of money and give him just 50 rupees. In a fit of rage, he opened fire on them injuring both of them. Injured government employees were identified as Sukhdev Singh and Shyam Lal of Public Health Engineering department. Later on they were hospitalised as the CRPF cop escaped from the spot. The condition of Singh is said to be serious.
