Kolkata, May 5 (IANS) The campaign drums fell silent Tuesday evening for the 17 Lok Sabha constituencies going to the hustings in West Bengal May 7.
After reaching a crescendo over the last couple of days, campaigning came to an end at 5 p.m., as per Election Commission stipulations.
Around 21,700,000 people are eligible to vote in the second phase of elections in the state, covering seven districts.
'Altogether there are 27,178 booths and 134 candidates are contesting in this phase,' Chief Electoral Officer Debashis Sen told reporters here.
There will be adequate police arrangements, central police forces and micro observers. 'We will install around 1,870 digital cameras this time,' Sen said.
There will be 1,786 video cameras also.
'A total of 220 companies of central forces will be deployed for this phase,' Sen said.
