Cast your vote with any valid I-Card: Delhi EC
If your name is in the voter list but don’t have voter identity card, need not to worry as Delhi Chief electoral officer has allowed the voters to cast their votes using an alternative photo identity card.
The parliamentary election in Delhi is scheduled on May 07 and there are over 1.6-million voters who have been listed either for first time or listed after modification in the voter list of the capital, but despite the best efforts to offer a voter identification card to everyone, there are a large number of voters who are yet to get their voter id cards.
For those, the Chief electoral officer of Delhi has allowed to use one among the 13 alternative photo identity cards to show as a proof of identity to exercise the franchise.
For casting the vote, it is not mandatory to have a voter id card, but the name in the voter list. Polls can be exercised by only showing any authorized identity cards, said election commission official.
There are over 11 million eligible electors to cast their votes for the seven parliamentary seats in Delhi.
The 13 authorized alternative id-proofs are: passports, driving licenses, income tax identity (PAN) cards, arms licence, physical handicap document, property documents such as registered deed with photograph, pension document, SC/ST/OBC certificates issued by a competent authority, freedom fighter identity cards, job cards issued under National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA), health insurance scheme smart cards with photographs and service identity cards of the employees of state and central government, besides PSUs, passbooks issued by banks and post offices.
