Jim Morrison's 'death benefits' up for grabs

Tue, 01 Jan 2008 ANI

London, July 31 (ANI): The original "death benefits" card that was issued after the passing of The Doors singer Jim Morrison is all set to go on sale at an auction early next month.

The card states that the beneficiary of any money should be Morrison's brother Andrew, and not his common law wife.

According to reports, Pamela Courson was Morrison's girlfriend long before he earned fame, and she inherited everything in the singer's will.

She died from a drugs overdose three years after the American rock star, who perished in a bath in Paris aged 27 in 1971 after a suspected heroin overdose.

The auctioneer selling the card believes that it was a type of social security payment, the policy for which was taken out by Morrison in 1967.

The late rocker has been listed as James Douglas Morrison on the card, and his professional name has been shown as Jim Morrison.

The signature of the singer, which are in brown felt pen, appears to have been added several years after the policy was taken out in 1970, just months before Morrison's death.

The card states Morrison's date of birth, social security number, and Los Angeles address.

It also states that Morrison's brother should be the beneficiary of the state benefits.

Being sold by Cameo auctioneers in Reading, Berks, the card is expected to fetch 3,000 pounds.

"This is a unique item. Morrison died in France and is buried there but this document is from Los Angeles," the Telegraph quoted Alan Pritchard from the auctioneers as saying.

"Jim Morrison still has a large fan base and this is something that collectors would be very keen to buy," Pritchard added.

The sale is to be held on August 5. (ANI)
